Creating Your Own Greeting Cards



Everyone has been in this situation: You are going about your day like normal, when you suddenly realize you have forgotten to pick up a birthday card for a friend. Talk about being in a panic! Your day is much too full to fit in a trip to the store, but if you stick to your schedule and can find an extra 10 to 15 minutes, you might have enough time to make your own card.

So, you have a few minutes and start making a hand made card for your friend.

Here are some supplies to make your own cards.

  • Cardstock or blank pre-made cards
  • Patterned papers
  • Ribbons
  • Stapler
  • Adhesive
  • Paper trimmer
  • Rubber Stamps
  • Stickers

You should start off by creating your cardstock background first. Cut the cardstock with the paper trimmer to the dimensions you desire. Fold the cardstock in half and use either a bone folder or your fingers to make a nice crease.

A simple card can be made by cutting a piece of patterned paper that is ½ inch smaller on 2 sides than the cardstock. So, if your card front is 3″ x 5″, you would cut the patterned paper to 2.5″ x 4.5″ and center it on the cardstock background. Now, you can take either stamps or stickers to put a birthday phrase or quote on the patterned paper. Adding ribbons with staples can complete a simple card!

Now that you have this wonderful hand made card, what about an envelope? Most of the times I have made cards, I have gotten so discouraged that I didn’t have an envelope to put the card in that looked, well, normal!
